  6. Second-fix and decoration. Tiling, painting, splashback and the finished floor, plus second-fix electrical accessories where they sit on finished surfaces. The room is now a shell ready to receive cabinetry.
  7. Cabinetry and worktop. Install the units, then template and fit the worktop to the installed units. A worktop ordered before the units are in is a worktop cut to a drawing rather than to the room.
  8. Appliance install and final plumbing connection. Connect the washing machine, dryer and sink to the services roughed in at stage three, and commission them. This is the stage that exposes a first-fix done for the wrong layout, because the service has to reach the appliance where it actually sits.
  9. Snag and sign-off. Walk every connection, seal, fall and finish against the specification, confirm the electrical certificate is issued, and hold the final payment until the defects list is cleared.
